Challenge

The provider's IPTV service had failed in public during major sporting events, when large numbers of new subscribers arrived at once. The project was carrying a long list of features, and holding up under peak demand wasn't at the top of it.

What we did

  • Carried out a deep technical review of the failures and of how the service was being rolled out.
  • Rebuilt the project plan around the features subscribers had to have and quality of service at peak load, and moved the nice-to-haves later.
  • Coached the project team, and helped them brief the executive and win support for deferring less important features.

Outcome

The project was reset around what subscribers needed on match day, with executive backing to defer the rest and prevent a repeat of the failures.
